Dr. Fernando Alberdi has extensive experience in intellectual property law, with a focus on patent preparation and prosecution in the life sciences sector. His practice encompasses counseling public and private companies, as well as non-profit institutions including hospitals, research institutions and universities on the full spectrum of patent-related matters.
With a strong background in immunology and inflammation research, Dr. Alberdi brings deep technical expertise across a broad range of areas within the life sciences. His technical experience spans immunology, immunotherapy, biologics/biosimilars, vaccines, molecular biology including genomics, RNA and DNA interference technologies, molecular diagnostics, CRISPR, TALEN and Zinc Finger gene editing technologies, nucleic acid and peptide/protein therapeutics and diagnostics, recombinant protein expression, viral vectors, genetics, natural products, drug delivery and small molecule pharmaceuticals.
His practice involves designing and implementing strategic solutions to maximize protection and monetization of clients’ intellectual property assets. Dr. Alberdi provides comprehensive intellectual property services, including business-focused due diligence for private and public financial transactions, licensing and partnering opportunities. He also specializes in assessing patent landscapes, analyzing third-party patents, conducting patent watches on competitor activity, and preparing freedom to operate, patentability and invalidity opinions.
Dr. Alberdi received his J.D., magna cum laude, from Michigan State University College of Law. He holds a Ph.D. in biochemistry and immunology and a B.S. in biotechnology from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Australia. He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
